When purchasing aircraft components, it’s essential to understand their condition. Are you buying a brand-new part or one that has been certified? Does it come with all the necessary compliance documentation?

Keep reading to learn how JSSI categorizes part conditions and what each code means to us.

The following parts are always sold with 8130 tags, EASA form1 certificates, a Certificate of Compliance (CofC) or equivalent.

New (NE):  A part that has been produced by the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) or approved equivalent under FAA authority, certified to conform to type design, has no operating time or cycles and clear evidence of manufacturer traceability.

Overhauled (OH): A part that has been overhauled and tested in accordance with the manufacturers or part component maintenance manual specifications by an FAA/EASA approved repair facility.

Repaired (REPD): A part that has been repaired in accordance with the manufacturers or part component maintenance manual specifications by an FAA/EASA approved repair facility.

Modified (MOD): A part that has been modified, upgraded, or altered in some way from its prior configuration in accordance with the manufacturers or part component maintenance manual specifications by an FAA/EASA approved repair facility. Alterations could be as simple as a software upgrade.

Tested (TEST): A part that has been bench tested in accordance with the manufacturer’s specifications by an FAA/EASA approved repair facility. It may have possible cosmetic issues such as but not limited to scratches or missing paint.

Inspected (INSP): A part that has been visually inspected to meet the manufacturer’s specifications by an FAA/EASA approved repair facility. It may have possible cosmetic issues such as but not limited to scratches or missing paint.

Serviceable (SV): A part that has been deemed serviceable and airworthy by an authorized facility.

Parts sold “As-Removed”

The following definitions apply to components sold in “as-removed” condition, with limited or no refurbishment and without full testing or overhaul.

Serviceable as Removed (SV AR): A part removed from an aircraft, inspected, and determined to be in working condition at time of removal. It may have possible cosmetic issues such as but not limited to scratches or missing paint. May include ATA-106 and/or removal tag.

As Removed (AR): A part removed from an aircraft and sold in the same condition as when it was taken out. Its status is unknown and cannot be classified with certainty. No guarantee is provided regarding functionality, condition, or traceability. Includes green tag or identification tag equivalent and may have an ATA-106 if required and requested.
