JSSI is proud to support the FarmWorks Community Garden in Chicago’s East Garfield Park neighborhood. A team of 20 employees and interns recently volunteered for an afternoon of upkeep at this important community food pantry farm.
FarmWorks is part of the Heartland Alliance, which provides an array of services including health, housing, jobs, and justice. It is one of the world’s leading anti-poverty organizations determined to end poverty, homelessness, and injustice.
For many low income communities, good jobs and healthy food are in short supply. To help solve both problems, Heartland Human Care Services (HHCS), in partnership with the City of Chicago, NeighborSpace, and the Greater Chicago Food Depository, operates a 2.6 acre urban farm in Chicago’s East Garfield Park neighborhood. Local produce of the highest quality is distributed to those who need it most, and people overcoming multiple barriers are supported as they secure full-time, permanent, viable jobs.
This program provides the opportunities people need to support their families and make their community a more beautiful place to live–all while bringing fresh, healthy produce to the community.
