Desktop Appraisal

This ‘sight unseen’ service provides a less costly appraisal option with a shorter turn time. It is convenient, cost-effective and allows you to secure an accurate aircraft valuation anywhere in the world, without requiring an on-site inspection. On-Site Appraisal

A physical, on-site appraisal includes all of the standard desktop appraisal features, plus a hands-on inspection that includes a thorough examination of the aircraft. This includes a review of all engine and airframe maintenance logbooks and records and extensive research into recent sales of comparable make and model aircraft to establish the asset’s current market value.

What to look for when hiring an appraiser

Knowledgeable, trustworthy and qualified appraisers are in high demand from OEMs, banks and leasing companies, insurance underwriters, and on-demand charter operators. But what qualifies an individual to become an appraiser?

The appraisal profession is a complex one and education and experience are both key components. However, technically anyone can brand themselves as an aircraft appraiser, regardless of their knowledge, skills, experience, or abilities. To address this, the American Society of Appraisers (ASA) established an aircraft-specific discipline and designation program, to help owners and financial institutions ensure their aircraft receives an accurate valuation. Each of JSSI’s aircraft appraisers is fully accredited by the ASA.

When you request an appraisal, or a reappraisal for insurance, refinancing or disposition purposes, we recommend that you always work with an ASA-accredited appraiser. As part of the extensive accreditation process, a peer evaluation of appraisal reports is conducted before an individual receives either the Accredited Member (AM) credentials for two years of experience, or the Accredited Senior Appraiser (ASA) credentials for five years of experience. There are also extensive continuing education requirements.

Importantly, ethical matters form a key component of ASA’s Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice (USPAP) course and ASA ensures all accredited appraisers abide to this rigid code of professional ethics.
