JSSI has appointed David Schmitt as Director of Customer Field Support, Americas, a newly created role leading one of JSSI’s two regional maintenance field support organizations, structured to serve customers more closely around the world. Schmitt will lead the Americas field support team, the technical experts responsible for managing airframe and engine maintenance events across the United States, Canada, Latin America, and the Caribbean.
The regional model positions JSSI teams closer to the operators they support, with dedicated regional expertise, faster response times, and stronger local relationships with vendors and OEMs. JSSI’s technical services organization spans more than 70 technical advisors and a global network of over 600 MROs, primarily supporting the company’s Hourly Cost Maintenance (HCM) clients across thousands of aircraft worldwide. For clients, that means the people managing their maintenance events are grounded in the realities of their region and their fleet.
Schmitt brings deep, well-rounded experience across the maintenance lifecycle, from hands-on aircraft maintenance to manufacturing, supply chain, and operations leadership. That breadth positions him to lead a disciplined, data-driven approach to event management across the Americas.
“As JSSI continues to scale, maintaining the highest standard of support for our customers is critical. We face daily challenges across our engine and airframe business, and it is through our network of expert technicians and our partners, suppliers and vendors alike, that we deliver the best service in the industry. With our field support organized along regional lines, our team is positioned closer to customers, backed by dedicated regional expertise and stronger local relationships. David’s background across the maintenance lifecycle makes him the right person to lead that work in the Americas,” said Alexis Javkin, Executive Vice President, Maintenance Operations & Procurement, Technical Services, JSSI.
A career built across the maintenance lifecycle
Before joining JSSI, Schmitt served as General Manager for Aerospace & Defense In-Lab Services at Mistras Group. Prior to that, he spent several years at Honeywell Aerospace in aftermarket and MRO operations, holding roles including Senior Operations Manager for Aftermarket/MRO and Director of Operations across OEM, APU, and engine lines. That experience spans the same engine and airframe programs JSSI supports every day, and gives him a working understanding of both the technical and commercial sides of a maintenance event.
Schmitt’s operational discipline was forged well before his aerospace career. He served 20 years in the United States Air Force before retiring in 2022, including five combat deployments in support of Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom. Leading maintenance and operations in those environments, where readiness is not negotiable and there is no margin for delay, shaped the standard he now brings to managing events for JSSI customers. It is the kind of background that matters most on the days an operator can least afford downtime.
Originally from Connecticut, Schmitt is relocating from the Phoenix area to the greater Chicago region, home to JSSI’s global headquarters.
Please join us in welcoming David to the JSSI team.
