Aircraft Maintenance Technology’s ‘40 under 40’

Here at JSSI, we are celebrating the fantastic achievement of Oscar Martinez, our Engine and Airframe Technical Advisor for Latin America and winner of Aircraft Maintenance Technology magazine’s 40 under 40 award.

An inspiring member of the JSSI team, Oscar brings great value to the company through his day-to-day actions. Here, he tells us the ins and outs of his role and how it feels to be a 40 under 40 winner.

How long have you been with JSSI and why did you want to join the company?

I have been employed by JSSI for three years now. The company is unique in the industry as it is the only organization that offers a variety of hourly cost maintenance programs covering all the OEMs. This, combined with the great potential growth within the company, led me to make the decision to join this incredible team.

What does a typical day for you look like?

A typical day for me starts early in the morning. I make sure all my clients have received the parts that were ordered the previous day, before moving onto some admin work in order to be ready for whatever the day may bring. My role is varied: one day I might be supporting a client’s aircraft on ground (AOG) in a remote location, the next I’m visiting a repair facility to review work being performed on a JSSI aircraft. At the same time, I’m helping my team with any special tasks that may be required to support our clients.

After hours, I enjoy spending time at the gym and with my family. I will soon become a father, so I try to structure my work/life schedule as much as possible to prepare myself for this new chapter.

How has your job changed since Covid-19?

Travel restrictions have been the main cause of change for my day to day work over the past few months. This is in contrast to the past three years where I averaged one trip per month, some of which were international. Like everyone else, I have adapted and used the available resources to make sure our clients get the level of service they are accustomed to from JSSI.

What do you enjoy most about working for JSSI?

The thing I enjoy most about working for JSSI is the high level of experience and professionalism of my colleagues. From the headquarters team in Chicago to my managers and everyone else around the world, I feel extremely blessed to be part of such a talented group. I can only wish to continue to learn from them and better my knowledge every day.

How does it feel to be named as a ’40 under 40′ winner by Aircraft Maintenance Technology magazine?

Being named one of the top ‘40 under 40’ winners by Aircraft Maintenance Technology magazine caught me by surprise. It was great to learn that some of my colleagues had nominated me and more so to have won. It’s an understatement to say I’m honored to be alongside such a well-represented group of aviation professionals.

What do you enjoy doing outside of work?

Outside of work I enjoy deep sea fishing, the beach, reading a good book or studying. Of course, I also love a shot of tequila while eating some good Mexican food and dancing through life.
